KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — At least 600 top-notch athletes are expected in Kalamazoo this weekend for the country’s most-grueling 329-foot run.
The third-annual Ultimate Extreme Ultra .1K is set for Saturday, nearly spanning two downtown blocks from West Michigan Avenue to West Lovell Street.
“You have to train at least seven minutes before the race,” Sarah Kerry with Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan said Thursday.
Kerry said roughly 400 people have already signed up for the spoof run — and many of those participants, some in wacky costumes, will be crawling, walking backward and cartwheeling past the finish tape.
“It’s meant to raise money and awareness for Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan,” she said. “So, all of the proceeds from the race will go toward our hospice services.”
The event has raised $24,000 over the past two years, Kerry said. The festivities will get underway at 11 a.m.
Needed tips and other notable event information can be found at the event’s website.
