LANSING (WKZO-AM) — State House Elections Committee Chairwoman Lisa Posthumus is drafting legislation that would close a loophole currently being used by ousted lawmaker Cindy Gamrat and resigned former representative Todd Courser.
The two are running to be reelected to seats vacated earlier this month. Courser resigned and Gamrat was expelled after both were accused of using taxpayer resources to cover up their sexual relationship.
Posthumus tells MIRS News the bill would prohibit such future turnarounds.
Some in Lansing say that there still may be a legal challenge if Gamrat is reelected in Allegan County on March 8.
There are special GOP primaries in Allegan and Lapeer counties slated for Nov. 3.
