LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan State Capitol Commission has closed the interior of the Capitol dome to general public tours due to safety concerns.
Access would be limited to regular maintenance and surveillance service. The ban could be lifted by commissioners under special circumstances.
Dome tours had been used mainly by state lawmakers for inviting constituents.
The panel was also told by contractors that the exterior restoration of the Capitol remains on track for its scheduled completion next June. Costs are, so far, on budget.
