BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek has built an African-style camp for overnight visitors that will also serve as a meeting place and an educational center.
Officials at the zoo say it’s like taking an African safari without leaving west Michigan.
It’s called the Joe and Clara Stewart African tented Camp and Zamani School, and it was dedicated Wednesday.
The camp, which consists of eight wood-framed structures built on stilts with removable canvas covers, is located on the northern edge of the zoo’s 18-acre African savannah, where wild zebras, giraffes and impalas graze.
