KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Gas prices have spiked in Michigan once again.
A gallon of regular in the Kalamazoo area will cost drivers around $2.50, according to GasBuddy.com.
What happened? GasBuddy.com analyst Patrick DeHaan says it was the usual combination of higher crude prices and flaky refinery maintenance.
“There is a lot of refinery maintenance that’s taking place,” DeHaan said. “Some of it was supposed to start earlier, but then BP went down and some refineries delayed their maintenance, so now we have an onslaught of maintenance.”
He also said the Federal Reserve’s decision not to raise interest rates also played a role.
When will we see $2 gas again? DeHaan said at some point before year’s end.
“It’s a good thing that I said either by Halloween or Christmas,” DeHaan said.
