KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety will be getting financial assistance from the federal government to maintain staff.
The U.S. Department of Justice has approved $1.25 million in grants that will allow the department to fund ten positions. It’s welcome news, because the department has suffered staffing cuts as the city has been dealing with multi-million dollar deficits.
Grand Rapids will be getting $1 million to fund eight police officers. The city of Detroit is getting over a million to buy body-worn cameras for its officers.
