KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The city’s blue-ribbon revenue committee continues to slog through a list of alternative revenue sources for the city, reviewing state fire reimbursement, special assessment districts, Headlee overrides and a possible hike in local income tax rates Monday night.
Because committee members have been making inquiries about cuts, they were also given a presentation of the city’s new priority-based budgeting model and were shown how the system will help the county in the long-term.
They only made one real decision, and that was to wrap up their work by Dec. 7. It was beginning to look like their work might slop over into next year, the committee said.
If all goes as planned, they should have their recommendations all wrapped up with and ready to present to the city commission when they meet Christmas week.
