KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo will be getting one of the biggest portions of a nearly $500,000 pot of money set aside by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to help communities protect their water supplies from well and surface contamination.
The city will receive a $60,000 grant, while the Kalamazoo Lake, Sewer and Water Authority will get $10,750.
The agency says around $40,000 has been earmarked for Battle Creek.
Smaller chunks of money have been set aside for other west Michigan communities, including Bangor, Berrien Springs, Buchanan, Hastings, Mattawan, Mendon, Niles, Vicksburg and Paw Paw.
