PLAINWELL (WKZO-AM) — Cindy Gamrat has decided she will run for the 80th District House seat that became vacant when she was expelled last week.
She says the voters should have the final choice and not the House of Representatives.
The filing comes despite an ongoing joint investigation by the State Police and the Attorney General’s office into possible criminal activities that Gamrat and Todd Courser may have committed while trying to cover up an extra-marital affair and a legislative operation that was more concerned about politics than legislating.
Former representative Todd Courser says he has not made up his mind yet.
Courser told WKAR-TV that he’s been talking with his wife about whether to run again. You can watch the interview here.
“Yeah, there could be eight candidates, there could be 82 candidates — I think the more important this is making sure that it’s the right decision for myself and my family,” the Republican from Lapeer said Wednesday.
He’s also said he’s not sure stepping down was the correct decision.
“There’s no recognition of the work that I did in the state House,” Courser said. “My district, really, they haven’t been exposed to the fact that we did some really good work.”
The hand-written resignation came during a marathon House session, as legislators were voting on whether to expel Courser.
Couser is accused of using taxpayer resources to cover up an affair with another former representative, Cindy Gamrat. Gamrat was expelled roughly an hour after Courser tendered his resignation.
Courser must make his decision by Friday.
