ALLEGAN (WKZO-AM) — Three Republicans have announced their intention to run for Cindy Gamrat’s old seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Jim Storey is an Allegan County commissioner who has served in various local offices for over two decades.
“I thought it was very important that Allegan County have someone to stand up for the county,” Storey said.
Mary Whiteford ran against Gamrat and lost in the primary last year. She has never held elective office, but says she will bring her experience as a business person to Lansing.
“I had somebody ask me last week, ‘Look, I trusted her. How am I going to trust you?’ And, you know what? That’s the thing. Words are words,” Whiteford said.
Another Allegan County commissioner, Bill Sage, who is a member of the Tea Party, has also filed. Others have reportedly expressed interest in the seat.
Friday is the deadline to file.
