HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – There will be at least one contested election in Allegan County on November 3rd.
Allegan County Commissioner Jim Storey of Holland announced on Monday that he would seek the Republican nomination in a special primary election to fill the vacant state House 80th District seat. He joins Mary Whiteford of South Haven on the ballot, with a filing deadline of this Friday afternoon.
Storey, a long-time political consultant and member of the Holland BPW Board, is in his second term on the Allegan Board and is currently that panel’s Vice Chair.
The House seat was vacated last Friday when Cindy Gamrat was expelled by the Lower Chamber in the wake of a scandal involving fellow freshman Republican Todd Courser. Her staff remains in Lansing to serve constituent needs through supervision by the House general office, while Ken Yonker (R-Caledonia), whose district includes the Wayland area, said that he would vote for all of Allegan County in state House matters until Gamrat’s successor is elected and sworn in.
The special General Election for the state House seat is on March 8th.
