LANSING (WKZO-AM) — With expulsion hearings behind them and the public clamoring for action on a number of issues, Rep. Jon Hoadley of Kalamazoo says lawmakers will work on legislation to fix Michigan roadways when they return to work Tuesday.
The Democrat said the issue is in the hands of the leadership, but also said there may be some movement.
“It sounds like we’re getting close to a framework that would move us all forward together in a bipartisan way, and that would be great,” Hoadley said.
The Legislature, in general, has taken a beating in the media because of their perceived inaction, compounded by the circus that surrounded the Gamrat-Courser affair. The House, in particular, has been a specific target of the vitriol.
“We’re all going to get back to work now, and I hope we all take advantage of the fall to start or continue some of these important conversations that voters have been wanting us to get to,” Hoadley said.
Hoadley also said he hopes House members can find a way to work together as a more deliberative body with more transparency, and drop the “gotcha politics” that have gripped the Capitol.
