PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Portage fire investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that caused extensive damage to a unit at the Airport Inn on Helen Avenue, just off Portage Road.
Initial reports are that the early Sunday morning blaze appears to be accidental.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit, in part due to the construction of the motel.
The family of four that was staying there was able to escape without injury, but most of their possessions were apparently destroyed in the fire. Both adults and both children are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The fire caused around $8,500 damage.
