LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Republican Michigan State Representative Todd Courser of Lapeer is leaving office, making the announcement in the House chambers early today. Courser’s resignation came just after 3 a.m. Friday, more than 12 hours after members started voting in an attempt to remove him and fellow GOP Representative Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell.
The pair have admitted to breaking House rules in covering up their extramarital affair, but requested a public censure instead of expulsion. Democrats have withheld support needed for a super majority to force the pair to leave office because they want a criminal inquiry.
An hour after Courser’s resignation, the House passed an expulsion order to have Gamrat removed from office.
