CHARTER TWP OF CLINTON, MI (WTVB) – President Obama was in Michigan yesterday afternoon to announce a new scholarship program called the American College Promise. It would offer two free years of tuition at a Community college. The prime objective is to make it easier for kids from low income families to get the education they need to become and continue to be productive workers.
The program would be funded by closing corporate tax loopholes, which Obama told the crowd at Macomb Community College yesterday have proven to be a major obstacle. Students would be eligible if they get the grades in high school to be admitted, maintain at least a half-time schedule and a 2.5-grade point average and continue progress toward a degree.
