KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners have given a green light to the Green Door Distilling Company, which plans to set up a manufacturing operation for craft liquors in a building in the 400 block of East North Street in Kalamazoo.
It’s just the latest in a line of craft beer, wine and hard liquor businesses that have proposed locations in Kalamazoo and hope to join in the opportunity to become part of what will be a tourist destination for alcohol consumers with finer tastes.
A few complained about the evils of alcohol at last night’s public hearing on the application but most who spoke said it would be a positive addition to the area. They would be licensed to make up to 60-thousand gallons of brandy and spirits annually. They could sell samples and bottles at the site, and they plan to set up an area outdoors with tables and chairs and a stage where bands could entertain.
They still need state and federal approval and to pass local inspections before they could start cooking.
