Western Michigan University settled in a six-way tie for 105th-best public university in the country in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 listing of the country’s best public universities, edging out rival Central Michigan University in 111th.
Overall, it was another strong showing by Michigan-based public four-year colleges. In its rundown for the new school year, the publication slotted the University of Michigan 4th, Michigan State 29th and Michigan Tech 60th.
U-of-M finished behind only the University of California-Berkeley, UCLA and the University of Virginia in the public school rankings.
Princeton, the private New Jersey-based Ivy League institution, finished on top of the overall list.
