LANSING (WKZO-AM) — State Rep. Todd Courser pleaded for forgiveness and a House censure in front of a select committee Wednesday, after using taxpayer resources to cover up an affair with Rep. Cindy Gamrat.
The Republican from Lapeer told the panel that expulsion is too strict of a punishment.
“You have some converations in the House that amount to the misuse of taxpayer funds, and I’ve said that I would certainly reimburse the state if they want to calculate how much that is, and you have a ridiculous email sent out by a guy in a desperate moment,” Courser said.
Andrea Lafontaine, a Republican representative from the 32nd District, is part of the committee and said she was not happy with Courser showing up late Wednesday, nor Courser’s publication of that provocative email in May, where he was claimed to be having an affair with a male prostitute.
“You described your berating email as ‘a moment that you had with your staffers,’” Lafontaine said. “I don’t care if it was a moment, I don’t care if it was a minute, I don’t care if it was a month — it was unacceptable.”
Gamrat appeared in front of the same panel Tuesday.
