KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan football head coach P.J. Fleck expects fans to pack Waldo Stadium for Friday’s opener against No. 5 Michigan State.
As of 10:23 a.m. Friday, the cheapest tickets on StubHub were going for $136.
“Possibly one of the biggest events in Kalamazoo history,” he said, citing a Simon and Garfunkel concert that took place in the city previously.
The duo’s website doesn’t list any Kalamazoo dates in its tour history. Fleck said the event took place in the 1970s.
Regardless of Fleck’s understanding of entertainment history in Kalamazoo, the game will create an economic fervor — both on campus and near the downtown core.
MSU head coach Mark Dantonio said the visit is part of their “Celebrate The State” series, where the Spartans play Michigan-based Mid-American Conference teams.
“We made this decision years ago to try to help the economy of the state of Michigan,” Dantonio said. “Bringing commerce to that particular city, as opposed to going out of state.”
Kickoff tonight in Kalamazoo is at 7 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPNU. The MSU radio broadcast will be carried on 590 WKZO-AM, while the WMU broadcast will be carried on 96.5 WZOX-FM.
