A Kent County jury heard additional testimony from defense witnesses Wednesday in the Jamarion Lawhorn murder case, including social workers and the boy’s parents, who told conflicting stories about the treatment the boy was receiving.
They claimed they had beaten him in the past, but also claimed they stopped in 2013 after being visited by a worker with child protective services
They also testified that the boy seemed to be happy last summer — that’s when the then 12-year-old stabbed a nine-year-old to death in a Kentwood park.
A pediatrician also found evidence of more-recent beatings.
The defense was scheduled to call witnesses Thursday to argue Jamarion should never have been put on trial because he’s technically insane and unable to aid in his own defense.
The jury could enter deliberations before the weekend.
