ANN ARBOR, MI (WHTC) – A report by the U-M Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation revealed that, in 2013, about 1.2 million Michigan residents were considered underinsured, based on out-of-pocket medical spending, while around a million were without insurance altogether. Such out-of-pocket spending rose 5.8 percent from 2012 to 2013, while average wages only increased by nearly two percent. Almost 64 percent of those working in leisure, hospitality and insurance fields were underinsured.
