BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A 16-year-old accused of killing three in a Memorial Day weekend crash in Calhoun County may be tried as an adult.
Prosecutors say Shammond Holmes of Albion was tearing along Interstate 94 at over 120 mph when he lost control of his car, shot across the median and slammed into an oncoming vehicle
The crash killed his cousin, Maceo Jones, and two sisters in their 70s in the other car, Ella Blackwell and Ethel Brinstone.
A court referee made the recommendation because of the serious nature of the crash, despite Holmes not having a previous record. It will up to the judge to decide how he is tried and sentenced.
