DETROIT (WHTC) – More than 10 thousand sexual assault evidence kits discovered on a shelf in a Detroit warehouse several years ago have now been processed, with results sent to investigators for further action. Federal grants paid for two thousand tests, with the rest funded through a 2013 supplemental state budget act, along with private donors and non-profits. Over 26 hundred were tagged in the FBI’s combined DNA Index System and connected to cases or individuals in 35 states and Washington, DC.
