LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A special state House committee looking into the Cindy Gamrat-Todd Courser affair held a 10-minute organizational meeting today. Chaired by Ed McBroom of Vulcan in the Upper Peninsula, the four-Republican, two-Democrat panel received the complete House Business Office report on the freshmen lawmakers, and will eventually consider other testimony before making any recommendations about disciplinary action, which McBroom told MIRS News he wants done by mid-September. The panel is expected to meet again next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Gamrat of Plainwell and Courser of Lapeer are apparently not heeding more and more calls for their resignations. Courser claims that the HBO report that showed they had “misused” their offices, staff and taxpayer resources to cover up their adulterous relationship and to benefit their own political advantage is nothing more than a set up by the GOP House leadership to get rid of him, while Gamrat, who did appear at today’s committee meeting, wants the voters in her district to decide at the ballot box next year whether she stays or not.
