LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Michigan House Speaker Kevin Cotter has called for the immediate resignation of Representatives Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell and Todd Courser of Lapeer after a nine-page summary of a 40-page state House Business Office report showed that the two freshmen lawmakers “misused” their offices, staff and taxpayer resources to cover up their adulterous relationship and to benefit “their own political advantage.”
A special House committee will go over those findings from a two-week-long HBO investigation, as well as other evidence, before recommending whether or not Gamrat and Courser should be disciplined. That committee will be headed by Ed McBroom of the Upper Peninsula community of Vulcan, and has a organizational meeting slated for Tuesday.
The two legislators have thus far resisted calls from both sides of the political aisle for their resignation since the scandal broke earlier this month.
