State Lawmaker Wants to License Agents for College Student Athletes in Michigan

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – When state lawmakers return to Lansing for the fall session, they may be considering a bill that would license agents of student-athletes in Michigan. Walker House Republican Rob VerHeulen is drafting the legislation that would, in part, notify the school of such a contract and allow a student-athlete to back out of a deal with the agent up to 14 days after signing it. VerHeulen told MIRS News that Michigan’s Uniform Athlete Agents Act is similar to laws already enacted in 42 other states.
