LANSING (WKZO) — The Michigan House of Representatives have adjourned for the day without taking a vote on a road package, a deal which continues to elude the Republican leadership.
They did however take a voice vote to establish a house select committee to investigate the Gamrat/Courser affair.
Kalamazoo Rep. Jon Hoadley says it appears it will be made up of four Republicans and two Democrats.
Whether it will conduct its own investigation, or more likely review the results of the probe by the House Business Office remains unclear.
Their job will be to “examine the qualifications of Representatives Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser and determine their fitness to continue holding the high office to which they were elected,” according to the resolution.
They may recommend what next steps are in order, whether punishment or a criminal investigation by an outside source is warranted, and whether to proceed with expulsion, which has rarely been applied in the state’s history.
Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat apparently had an extra-marital affair and an investigation has been ongoing to determine if any taxpayers dollars were used to further the relationship or an attempted cover-up.
