MEDC Points Finger at Gun Lake Tribe-State Casino Deal for Cash Shortfall

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Due to an approximately seven million-dollar shortfall, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is trimming their staff an unspecified amount prior to the start of Fiscal 2016 on October 1^st. The agency attributed the loss to a dispute between the state and the Gun Lake Tribe, which stopped making bi-annual slot-machine payments from its casino in Bradley to Lansing on June 1^st. The dispute stems from the state Lottery moving into Internet lottery sales in violation of the initial compact, according to the Tribe. The MEDC is revising budget plans for the remainder of this year and all of next year as a result.
