WHITING, INDIANA (WKZO) — After various reports of what actually took place at the BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana that resulted in a 70 to 90 cent spike in gas prices this week, several officials are demanding that the company be more forthcoming and transparent.
There were various reports of a major failure, a minor blow out, and even of a planned slowdown for routine maintenance.
Attorney General Bill Schuette was asked by Senator John Proos for an investigation. Instead he got a statement threatening to prosecute any gas station that got caught gouging and a letter to BP, asking for an explanation.
Congressman Fred Upton of Michigan and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana have issued a joint statement demanding that BP “release as much information as they can regarding the maintenance schedule so that speculators will not trigger what happened this week.
