EAST LANSING (WKZO) –State Representative Cindy Gamrat has broken her silence on accusations that she and Representative Todd Courser used state resources to cover up their affair. She says she has no plans to resign at this time, but that it remains an option on the table.
She plans to be back in Lansing if session is held next week to represent her constituency and do her job.
The Plainwell Republican held a press conference in East Lansing, to refute the claims that she knew nothing about the E-mail that Courser sent out prior to its distribution. In that e-mail, he posed as someone anonymously claiming that Courser had had male sex and that he was a porno fiend.
She says she did not find out about it until a reporter showed it to her, and she says she has only read parts of it since, and those parts were in bad taste.
She says she welcomes the investigation and is sure that it will clear her of any criminal wrong doing.
Gamrat, often on the verge of tears, said the main reason she held the news conference was to apologize for the affair, which was long over by the time the news broke last Friday.
Her husband appeared at her side during the event.
She did take a few questions from reporters saying she has spent considerable time thinking about resigning, she says its still a possibility but not right now, and certainly not before the investigations are over.
