PORTAGE (WKZO) — Portage voters will get a chance to vote to decriminalize Marijuana this November, but it may have no impact on actual enforcement of marijuana laws in the city.
City Attorney Randall Brown says they have been informed by the Attorney Generals office by letter that Portage Police have been and must continue to enforce state marijuana statutes, regardless of any local charter amendments.
The Petition initiative bars portage officials from enacting any laws that would restrict possession of less than an ounce.
They don’t have any on the books right now so it should be easy to obey, if it passes..
