KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Homeowners on West North St. in the Douglas Neighborhood say they are running out of steam and patience.
They have been speaking at City, County and Township meetings for over a month saying a quirk in Kalamazoo’s unusual maze of one way streets downtown has turned their quiet residential street into a shortcut that funnels too much traffic past their homes.
Arlene Larson says it’s made the area unlivable.
Homeowner Jim Furner says if they undo the problem created in their neighborhood by making Douglas two way at West Main…it might just be the trigger that fixes to all the city’s downtown traffic problems.
Short of that, they would like to at least have speed bumps.
City Commissioners have asked Manager Jim Ritsema for a report on the issue.
Complicating the matter is the fact that West North street runs thru both the City and Township of Kalamazoo and the larger traffic issues involve state and federal highway agencies.
