KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo County health officials say sexually transmitted diseases have spiked in the last two years, despite a drop in unwanted pregnancies.
County Health Director Jillian Stoltman briefed County Commissioners, saying that young adults are hooking up randomly on social media and that makes it difficult to track partners when someone comes down with an STD like Chlamydia or Gonorrhea after an anonymous hookup.
She says everyone from doctors to nurses to the young adults need to learn that while only one kind of sex will cause pregnancies, all the alternatives used to avoid pregnancy will pass along viruses.
STD Cases more than doubled last year in Kalamazoo County and are on pace this year to go even higher than that.
