KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — They took a stand against crime while at the same time, getting together for a snack, to enjoy music meeting neighbors and Public Safety officers at nine National Night Out events in Kalamazoo.
It was the 32nd year for the event. Given the increase in Police shootings and growing tension in minority neighborhoods nationwide, it may have been more important than ever.
Stuart neighborhood Chair Max Tibbets says its important for another reason too, with cuts in staff at Public Safety.
He says they have the lowest crime rate in the city because they work at it.
Just five blocks away, on the North side a crowd made up mostly of children were playing games.
National Night Out started over 30 years ago as a way to build relationships between police and community members to try to prevent crime.
