KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Two teens caught in the act after a burglary early Friday in the Westwood neighborhood are in custody and now everyone is wondering if they are the ones responsible for a series of burglaries in the area.
The homeowners in the 14-hundred block of North Hampton woke to the sound of their car alarm going off.
They quickly discovered there home had been robbed and the keys to their 2014 Ford Explorer had been taken.
Responding officers quickly intercepted the stolen vehicle and gave chase, until it crashed into a retaining wall at Gorham Lane and Devoshire.
The two occupants, both 18-year-olds from Kalamazoo, tried to flee into a wooded area but were chased down and arrested.
Jemari Matthews and Martavius Compton are facing larceny, home invasion, car theft: possibly fleeing and eluding and resisting and obstructing charges, yet to be determined by a judge.
Homeowners in the area had be warned a few weeks ago to lock their doors because of a rash of home and car burglaries in the area.
