KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — A new marketing study commissioned by Downtown Kalamazoo Incorporated and S.W. Michigan First claims that downtown Kalamazoo and its adjacent neighborhoods could fill 14-hundred additional housing units of all sizes, designs and price ranges over the next five years.
They say there is opportunity for landlords in the Vine neighborhood who want to upgrade their properties.
Room for condos, town houses even rowhouses on the riverfront and opportunities for building owners downtown who want to convert upper floors into residential units,
Vice Mayor Dave Anderson who chairs the County Housing Commission says for a long time the trend was to move to the suburbs but higher fuel prices and the desire to be near the action has more people moving into urban areas.
He says just having a marketing study available provides anyone looking for state or federal housing funding a key requirement for their application…a marketing report which could cost thousands otherwise.
