LANSING (WKZO) — Demonstrators were in Lansing yesterday, taping messages to the door of the Bishop of the United Methodist Church, protesting the firing Reverend Benjamin Hutchinson, because he is gay.
The former Cassopolis Pastor says he was told to resign or be fired. A week later he married a man with nine other pastors from Southwest Michigan present or presiding and they now all face discipline too.
Reverend Hutchinson says he did not expect it to set off a movement.
The Bishop issued a statement saying she grieves for the painful place the church finds itself, and “is sure with god’s help they will find their way through these difficult times”.
