BAGRAM A.F.B. (WKZO) — It may not have been the biggest loss of life during the Afghan War, but it was one of the most dramatic, when a 747 came crashing to the ground just after taking off from the Country’s largest airport, and it was all captured on video.
The National Transportation Safety Board has concluded that a National Airlines 747 with a civilian crew of 7, six of them from Michigan, crashed in Afghanistan in 2013 because the vehicles inside the plane were not properly secured.
The NTSB determined that one of the five M-RAP armored vehicles in the plane broke loose and rolled backwards, taking out the plane’s hydraulic system as it was ascending off the runway at Bagrum Air Force Base.
The investigators concluded that the plane’s crew had been supplied with improper instructions by National Airlines for securing vehicles.
The huge Boeing, loaded with fuel, went out of control, hit the ground and exploded.
It was all captured on the dash-cam of a military vehicle headed toward the airport.
