GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – Today is the 102nd birthday of former President Gerald R. Ford.
His family and friends will take part in the annual wreath-laying ceremony at his tomb in downtown Grand Rapids this morning at 10 a.m. The wreath-laying will be conducted on behalf of President Barack Obama, the Ford Family, President Ford’s White House Staff and Cabinet and the United States Secret Service.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill will speak today at the J,W, Marriott Hotel in Grand rapids for the 2015 William E. Simon Lecture.
Ford served as President from August 9th, 1974 until he was succeeded by Jimmy Carter in January 1977. He’s the only person to ever serve as Vice President and President without having been elected to the posts. Ford died on December 26th, 2006 and is buried next to his wife as the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
