DETROIT (WKZO) — Tiger bats exploded in a one sided batting clinic in Seattle.
Nick Castellanos went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and four RBI to lead the Tigers to a 12-5 thumping of the Mariners at Safeco Field.
Victor Martinez also had four hits, including a solo shot, and scored three times for Detroit.
J.D. Martinez and Yoenis Cespedes both went deep as well en route to the Tigers’ third victory in four games.
Alfredo Simon improved to 8-and-5 with the win.
Maykol Guaipe took the loss after giving up three runs without recording an out during a five-run sixth for Detroit. Logan Morrison clubbed a three-run homer while Dustin Ackley and Brad Miller each plated a run.
Seattle had won four of its previous six.
The game wrapped up early this morning Eastern Time. Game two starts at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
