DETROIT (WKZO) — James McCann topped off a come-back win for Detroit when he smacked a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Tigers past the White Sox 5-4 at Comerica Park.
McCann has only hit three homers in his Major League career, two for walk-off wins and his first was an inside-the-park homer.
Victor Martinez hit a three-run double to cap a four-run eighth inning for the Tigers, who took two of three in the rain-shortened series.
Joakim Soria picked up the win.
Avisail Garcia drilled a two-run homer and Melky Cabrera went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run for Chicago, which led 4-0 through six innings. Zach Putnam suffered the loss.
The Tigers will take Monday off, and kick off a three game series with Pittsburgh Tuesday evening. Justin Verlander is scheduled to take the mound for Tuesday’s game.
