KALAMAZOO (WKZO)– The Supreme Court may have settled the issue of same-sex marriage but there are other challenges the gay community says it still faces in Michigan.
Kalamazoo State Rep. Jon Hoadley says a recently enacted law giving faith-based adoption agencies the right to refuse gays must be challenged for the precedent it sets.
Jay Maddock, the Director of the Kalamazoo LGBT Resource Center says he thinks their top priority should be revising the Elliott-Larsen Civil rights act, because until they do, it will continue to be legal to discriminate against gays.
Hoadley is also pushing for the legislation to make it happen.
The Governor is on their side on that issue, and has urged the legislature to take up the necessary legislation.
