KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — You have heard of ball games being called on account of rain.
Well this was something more serious as the Kalamazoo Growlers had to cancel both their weekend games due to flooding.
It wasn’t just a few inconvenient puddles, but because the entire field was submerged below the Kalamazoo River.
When they made improvements to the field in the off-season, raising it four feet was not on the list.
Homer Stryker has flooded before, but usually not in the middle of the season.
The games with the Lakeshore Chinook (who definitely would have had an advantage under these conditions) will be made up with back to back double-headers on July 3rd and 4th.
Tickets for this weekend’s game will be honored at these or any other remaining home game this season.
DETROIT (WKZO)– Saturday’s game between the Tigers and White Sox was postponed due to rain at Comerica Park.
The two teams will make up the game on Monday, September 21st as part of a split-doubleheader. Game one will begin at 1:00 Eastern Time and the second game of the doubleheader will take place at 7:08.
Lefty David Price toes the rubber for Detroit in today’s series finale. Chicago counters with right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
The Tigers claimed a 5-4 victory over the White Sox in the series opener Friday. They have a Sunday afternoon game scheduled with the Sox to close out the series.
