MARQUETTE, MI (WHTC) – MIRS News reports that state Democratic Party Chairman Lon Johnson will announce tonight in Marquette that he will step down in order to make a run for his party’s nomination in the First US House District seat currently held by Republican Dan Benishek. Johnson replaced Mark Brewer as the Dems’ state party chief two years ago and had won reelection this past February. The Dems’ state central committee meets in Port Huron on June 11th to possibly decide Johnson’s successor.
