GRAND HAVEN (WKZO) — 33-year-old Matthew Krueger of Chicago has been found competent to stand trial even though many were questioning his sanity after what he allegedly did last February.
Police in Oceana County say it appears he intentionally set fire to the building where he was staying.
Police officials claim he then set out for Grand Haven, calling ahead to tell them that he was driving a rolling bomb and that he was planning to crash into the U.S. Coast Guard Station.
There was no bomb.
He did manage to crash into the front gates but was quickly taken into custody.
Krueger is charged with Arson, making a terrorist threat and malicious destruction of property. He will be tried in both counties for the crimes
