State Senator Wants Civil Rights Icon on New $10 Bill

DETROIT (WHTC) – State Senator Morris Hood III (D-Detroit) told MIRS News that he’s presenting a resolution asking the US Treasury Department to make civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks the new face of the 10-dollar bill. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew wants a female on the bill by 2020, in connection with the centennial of the 19^th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Parks moved to Detroit after her 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott that many historians say started the nation’s civil rights movement.
