Outgoing State School Chief Expresses Hopes for Future

EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Outgoing state School Superintendent Mike Flanagan told MSU Public Television that he would like to see future state Board of Education elections be non-partisan in nature. Democrats currently hold a majority on the state Board and have butted heads with Republican leadership in the Legislature and at the Governor’s Mansion. Flanigan also wants more schools to offer breakfasts, with only half of the districts statewide now doing this. He retires at month’s end, replaced by Brian Whitson.
