LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A two-bill, bipartisan package was introduced in the state House that would have privately-run kitchens inside state correctional facilities to be subject to local health department inspections. This would address various violations involving food contractor Aramark that included maggot and rodent infestation. The local oversight would be on top of already-established internal inspections done by the state Department of Corrections and a firm retained by Aramark. The bills are now in committee.
