NEW YORK (WKZO) — J.D. Martinez homered three times and plated six to power the Tigers to a 12-4 romp of the Yankees in the Bronx.
Victor Martinez also went deep and drove in four to help Detroit salvage the finale of the three-game set.
Andrew Romine also banged out a dinger, his first of the season. Unfortunately for Yankees Rookie Jose DePaula the Romine Home run came on his very first pitch as a major leaguer.
Anibal Sanchez threw seven innings of three-run ball to improve to 6-and-7.
Stephen Drew drilled a pair of solo homers for the Yankees, who had won their previous four.
Masahiro Tanaka allowed five earned runs and 10 hits in five frames to fall to 4-and-3.
Tigers travel to CLeveland for a three game set against the Indians Monday evening.
