KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Just two weeks after taking leave from his post as President of Washington State University to battle colon cancer, Former Western Michigan University President Elson S. Floyd has lost his fight with the disease.
Dr. Floyd was WMU’s 6th President and one of its most dynamic, launching the Aviation School in Battle Creek and helping to found the BTR Park, picking the Parkview property in Kalamazoo for its location.
Floyd served as president of WMU from 1998 to 2003.
His tenure was marked by a series of major developments that have had a lasting impact on the campus and community.
Dr. Elson Floyd was 59.
